Corrosion (Rust) Protection

Corrosion (Rust) Protection

Standard Painted Finish

At a standard cost, all of our gates, railings, and handrails are primed and glossed before fitting, however, it might also sometimes be necessary to touch up with a little paint during installation.

DIY Finish

If you prefer, you can opt-out of of the standard painted finishing process that we offer, and paint the product yourself. If so, we strongly advise you to paint them immediately after installation, to prevent the metal from rusting, as corrosion is a natural trait of bare metal, in any environment.

Maintenance

It is good practice for hand-painted finishes to be repainted regularly to prevent corrosion. In fair conditions, we would expect a satisfactory period before you would need to repaint the product.

Frequency

The frequency of repainting your surfaces will increase, if the environment and conditions it is exposed to are likely to increase the rate of corrosion. For example, if you live in an area by the sea, the salt in the environment will substantially increase the rate of corrosion. However, if you don’t, but your gates or any other metal products you choose will require to be installed nearby a main road, where it is salted regularly during the winter, then this issue will cause a similar effect, and increase the rate of corrosion.

Best Practice

We would recommend that if you do notice any small areas beginning to show signs of rust, to touch up with some paint, and for thicker or larger areas of rust, we would suggest using an abrasive to lightly rub it down, before applying any more paint.
